An interesting survivalist article from someone in Argentina, who has been a preparedness type in a society that broke down, here. I find it quite interesting that he didn't make a big deal of what seems to have actually been the single most important thing in his setup, a really good fence. I suppose because that's the part you don't ever really see having an effect, since the effect is to deter conflicts before they even start. And a bit of humour, a TV announcer advertising Terminator being on later; "offers a bizarre solution to the abortion debate - kill the mother, not the unborn child. Sarah Palin take note." [17:51] |

I'm curious. What has reading this kind of stuff? |

...has YOU reading... |

Well, I could put it down to considering moving to a non-survivalist commune in spain and being concerned about their lack of security plans. Or I could blame it on receiving a plausible death threat recently (as opposed to all the implausible ones I usually ignore). But actually it was just linked from a livejournal I read and I thought it was interesting. |

Wow, okay. That's not at all what I had in mind, or why I asked. But sod that for now - Jesus, a *plausible* death threat?! |

Yeah. Not wanting to tell the full story in a public space, but the fun and exciting gist of the death threat part is that apparently it's perfectly legal to tell someone you'll kill them if they get court-appointed bailiffs to go round to collect on a court-ordered payment resulting from a small claims case. So there's a tip for you if you ever lose a small claims case, you might as well *try* a death threat since apparently neither the police nor the courts will do anything about it. The only threats that are illegal are if they might actually be carried out *right then*, which I assume means any threats that you report to the police don't count since with hindsight you know that the threat was not going to be carried out right then. Woohoo! |
