Ooh. Dyke to open up BBC archive. Hooray for lesbians, eh? Sounds like a phenomenally ill-considered idea that the BBC internet administrators will be screaming and tearing their eyes out about. Surely the BBC hasn't the bandwidth to support thousands of simultaneous downloads of serieses of Blake's 7, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf and many other shows starring quarries? Perhaps they will make them available via Kazaa or BitTorrent rather than via HTTP. Or perhaps, more likely, the whole idea will go the way of the exploding fist.

Hmm. The Way of the Exploding Fist screenshots reminded me of Karateka http://www.classicgaming.com/rotw/karateka.shtml which was one of my favourite games on the Apple IIC. Excellent game. Curses to Apple for deciding to wear a dirty mac and go around flashing mouse pointers at people instead of building on the Apple II series. Grarh. In addition to the wonderful BBC tv, BBC radio of course offers a number of gems. Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, the Goon show, Hancock's Half Hour, Revenge of the Mutant Quarry. How much of Monty Python was on the BBC? Hoorah!! The Goodies!!!! Woot!!! At some stage I was extremely complicatedly related to Tim Brooke-Taylor via marriage. This could provide me with a valid reason to get broadband. Apparently daleks are not allowed to be rebroadcast unless you give a lot of money to Terry Nation's widow. Terry also created Blake's 7. This may be a problem. Cybermen were always much scarier than daleks. At least you couldn't just walk up stairs to escape them. But Blake's 7 Evil People were never so silly as to wear gigantic pepper pots and ride tricycles. I do wonder if the BBC will in some way try to limit this to UK residents. Is the 'public' referred to really the 'people who pay license fees that keep us afloat'? |

The Way Of The Exploding Fist was a fantastic Spectrum game. I enjoyed it for months on end. I seem to remember it being quite difficult too. But then, I was only about seven or eight when I played it. |
