The Australian channel SBS has the best movie selection. It's the sort of channel that would show Cemetery Man and A Life Of Ninja on consecutive nights. It doesn't have movies very often, but on the other hand, it does have one non-repeated movie every week, which renders it better for movies than all 50-ish channels of basic cable in America put together, which just show a single Jean Claude Van Damme movie sixteen times a week. Tonight's beauty, advertised well enough that we recorded it (hence my earlier waffling about cable-splicing) was a Spanish slasher movie, Black Serenade. The IMDB reviews are rather strange, with all the Spaniards suggesting that the ending is predictable and the music is full of heavy metal. Perhaps the plot and music were entirely changed in the subtitling process, but I thought the end-twist was rather good - not unexpected, per-se, but neither was it the only expected ending; rather, any of five or six endings would have been equally valid (and more likely in terms of normal movie plots), which makes it quite different from predictable. The writing and direction do a brilliant job of casting a suspicious light on every character, giving each of them a good movie-esque motivation for being the killer, and at the same time rendering all of them eminently likeable. Most of you will realise that movie-characters being likeable to me is a fairly unusual and impressive feat. All in all, a fine movie, well worth seeing. And not even in a Deathlands sort of way; the humour in this one is evidently intentional. And black, of course; goes without saying, what with it being a European movie. We loves us some death. SBS, the Australian porn channel. (After 10:30pm) You'll also notice that they don’t even hide it any more showing titles like "Porn" (R), "How to make a Porno" (R), "Pornography" (R) and the freaky guy at the beginning just rambling on about the porn content of the movie and his rating of it. Though I must admit it has some good (and bad) non-porn movies as well. Not that I watch them being under 18 and all. As for the movies your talking about well I would have no idea what there like but I don't think I would like them. |

"They're". It's "they're". And "you're". Being under 18 doesn't excuse that error, unless your [sic] a really really long way under 18. And I suppose I could have said "the best movie selection with the probable exception of the porn which sounds really crap", but since most of the readers wouldn't have been aware that SBS has porn the effort would have been largely wasted and even confusing. |

Grarh!!! It's not bloody porn. Only somebody who'd never seen a naked person, even one streaking at the World Cup sporting event of your choice with hazy genitals, could possibly classify it as porn. Sure it gets you off, but so do car washes with extra soap. The whole point of SBS is that they broadcast multicultural stuff. If they don't the government will pull their funding. Naked people are cool in many places throughout the world. SBS has to present movies showing such things, it's in their charter. |

Also, aardvarks. |

Mm, the presenter man is rather entertaining in his obvious liking of porn, mind. Most notably in the pre-movie warnings; "This movie contains violence, adult situations, *NUDITY* and, meh, some other stuff". |
Tom |
Yeah, but it's very multicultural. |

Yes, Eps, Gods forbid that anyone under the age of 18 see naked people. That kind of thing just doesn't happen in this civilized age. |
