Comments on Monday 26 May 2003:
I am in the process of hax0ring a pair of boots. Using a hacksaw. I suspect my medieval-style boots of being partially responsible for my ankle-sprain, as walking in them tends to exacerbate the residual injury, the sole of the boots being marginally narrower than my foot, resulting in some sideways slippage. And besides, I'm tired of the time-consuming laces. The obvious solution is to get a new pair of boots, but that just wouldn't be my style now, would it? No, instead, I should clearly return to using an old pair of boots. But I stopped wearing those for a reason - the tall soles with non-functional springs in them were obviously a bit silly and less than practical, and also tended to result in people trying to talk to me, which I'm sure you all know I hate. And thus, we come to the hax0ring.

Before!After!
Surprisingly, success! But does anyone local have a power-sander or a plane I can borrow to level out what remains of the soles? [06:53]

hehe

Nice work. I'm far too lazy to ever do something productive on my own accord (well, productive and not involving programming- I can code all day with no problems, though I'm not sure how productive my coding really is), so I'm doubly impressed when others manage to.

Run on the spot, on a big sheet of sandpaper, for a few hours. Or feign waterskiing behind a car.

Have any pics of your medieval-style boots been posted previously? I don't recall seeing things with 'lots of laces' on your blog, and I think I'd like to.

http://www.ravenblack.net/inthecreep/medboot2.jpg and http://www.ravenblack.net/inthecreep/medboot1.jpg are the medieval-style boots.

queendarkitty
well, i have to say, your website is the most interesting thing on the net to me now, and your blog is even better.... thank you for intertaining me. your vampire game is fun.... thank you from me...

Birchtree
Superb boots, Harris. They go right up your legs. I didn't think waders were invented until the Regency period though?

RavenBlack
Meh, they're only knee-high, and they're not waterproof. Nor poison-ivy-proof. The hax0red boots are even shorter, barely shin height.

The Dritex
WOW! I would love to get a pair of boots like that.

RavenBlack
Before or after the sawing and other dismantling? Regardless, they're New Rock boots - http://www.newrockstore.com/ probably sells them.

Hermit
I rather liked the boots in the before shot ... really quite Frankenstein-esque. Though luckily, you got just what you wanted out of them.
Would have been a shame to lose them altogether.
Btw, many thanks for posting the link.

The Dritex
most deffinately after all the alterations you did to them. Such brilliance they are indeed.
So, with that link there, all I have to do is find the right pair, and the money.

RavenBlack
Mm, I liked them 'before', too, but boots in that form get tiresome after a while as primary footwear.

The shin-logos have been taken off, now, as well, and the boots are uncannily comfortable. The two-angled cut provides an automatic rolling gait that matches how I walk, making it even less effort than it would normally be. Lovely.

Bloody New Rocks, what for? Things fall off, and let water in, they're heavy, it's not easy to commit crimes in them, and if you do manage to kick someone’s face in, running away can be a problem. Plus they look silly. No, no, my friends, get yourselves a nice simple pair of laceless trainers (moccasin style) or some big, fuck-off, 20-hole Doc Martens. Both are comfortable. Both can be walked in silently, or intimidatingly loud, and both breathe. Although those 'medieval-style’ boots look nice. Where does one find decent pair that isn’t made for fancy dress purposes? (Leather of course, even if vegans can’t wear leather).

Hax0red New Rocks are good though - nothing left to fall off, still waterproof, no longer heavy, very quiet (the soles are some sort of strange hard foam rather than rubber - the foam is quieter), and oh so very comfortable.

The medieval-style boots were also comfortable except for the whole ankle-spraining thing - probably need to find someone who custom makes them, though, and they're even more expensive than New Rocks.

Tom
You need to get yourself some real boots instead of these doodads that claim to be boots while actually being tennis shoes with a fancy logo and leprosy.

http://www.blundstone.com.au/ are boots. I've had mine for ten years. Anything else that says it is a boot is the sort of thing that should probably be available from the baby section of boots.com. And shot with cancer missiles for not being bootish enough to start up an XT machine.

RavenBlack
My, those with their predominance of weird front-and-back tassle-things look astonishingly gay. (Note, this may be a compliment to the boots, since gay people allegedly have good fashion sense.)

Digi
Another benefit to hax0red New Rocks (in contrast to the non-hax0red variety) is being able to avoid the whole "He's got a British accent and big soles, he must have a bomb in his foot!" syndrome. Very useful when taking international flights, I'm sure.

The blundstone boots do look very gay, but then who's going to suspect a gay terrorist?

RavenBlack
Mm, that was a consideration too, and is part of what caused me to think of hax0ring them now.

Tom
Gay? Tassles? Being as 'tassles' is a mispelling of 'tassels' I'm going to assume that 'gay' was a mispelling of 'cool and hardcore'. Which may indicate gayness. They're not tassels. They're access tabs. They help you pull it on and off. You bastards. Now my feet are sexually ambivalent and are probably going to leave me to start a lucrative career in the gay foot porn industry. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
