Comments on Thursday 3 April 2003:
Now who's out of order?

Someone's idea of civil disobedience consists solely of inconveniencing the populace. I thought that, when dissatisfied with the government's actions, you're supposed to inconvenience the government. Anyway, this is the aptly named Out Of Order Project.

The site quotes from some who have taken up the 'cause':
"Tomorrow morning, people will find that they're going to have to walk a lot further to find a 'working' ATM / phone / parking meter."
"Coincidentally, as I was waiting, have a fag and pretending to write a text message, some bloke walked up to the machine, card in hand, frowned and then walked off - success?"
Yes. Success. Congratulations, you have successfully inconvenienced a complete stranger who wasn't even aware that they were the object of a stupid prank. For the next act of 'civil disobedience', why not push a stranger from a train? [16:41]

Damn straight, these nutsacks r t3h suk.

If they really wanted to stop/prevent this war they should have been protesting last fscking September or somesuch. Now they're just pissing the populace off. It was probably inevitable, anyway. We didn't elect the idiot; and he's deaf to the world.

I'll be protesting in the next election.

SpasmodicMonk
I am the pusher robot, I am here to protect you...

I think I might just go and take a shit on a complete stranger's car. That'll show the pesky government, they don't know what they're up against.

C. Copperpot
I'm going to begin training for a career as a serial sniper/professional protester! How exciting!

Yeees... Election...

Manic
If you're the kind of person that takes simple assertions at face value, then
civilian or not you are actually part of the problem.

RavenBlack
Even if Manic's assertion weren't complete crap, how does inconveniencing a "civilian that's part of the problem" *without any explanation* help change anything?

Tee
my two cents......

you know though it doesn't matter rather people protest or not this war is still going on and nothing anyone well say or do is going to stop it. This also reminds me of a child who when he/she doesn't get what he/she wants there'll hold there breath (have you ever tried that?). Sooner or later one of two things well happen one... there find its a lot harder doing then talking about it and two well they just knock themselves out.

RavenBlack
There are *some* people who could protest effectively. If the entire armed forced all agreed it was stupid and decided to go home, for example, that would work. Or if the president decided to call it off. But mm, civilians have no say until the 'next' election.

Tee
thats true to we the people have no say rather to go to war or not, but maybe if we all hold our breath and jump up and down like little childen we'll be able to stop this war (or maybe we'll all just knock ourselves out). I for one would actually be pretty pissed at whoever it was that put that fake sign up not the government. Then again I also have a saying what goes around comes around if that parson starts putting up "out of order" signs then the next time they have to go to an ATM or Pay Phone or whatever and it has a "out of order" sign on it I bet there'll think "haha<\/A>/ this is a fake" and use it and it really well be out of order and then it well eat up there card or money or whatever lol<\/A>/.

RavenBlack
I hope so.

Tom
I don't think I've ever seen a paper 'Out of order' sign on an ATM, payphone, or anything of the like. ATM's always display a message on their screen, and payphones just give you no dial tone. If I ever saw a paper 'Out of order' sign I'd assume it was a prank and rip it off. You'd be able to see the machine was working through the paper anyway. The problem with this idea is that it's twenty years out of date, paper 'Out of order' signs just do not exist anymore. And it kills trees. Not to mention being crap.

It's not even good conceptual art, conveys no message at all. Any art that needs an explanatory web page is crap. What they need is 'This ATM believes it's a fish' signs. That would at least put the fear of cod into the general populace.

"Those who want peace, expect war."

Tee
actually that gives me a great idea to get my biter link out there to Ravens game......

Justttt kidding Raven (although thats not a bad idea though)

RavenBlack
The protest might be quite good if the 'down' side of the sign had "The war with Iraq is... [PTO]" on it.
