It seems there are many sites like savekaryn.com; internet panhandling extreme. But I wonder - would a similar, prouder model of requesting money work? Perhaps, rather than "your money will pay off my debt", "your money will have fun". Live vicariously through Raven, dot com. I notice "frivolousspending.com" isn't taken. To some degree I rather suspect it would do better than standard begging; it would be like Big Brother or The Real World, so long as one were to spend the money properly frivolously, and fully document it, blog-like, on the site. Tempting to give it a shot, low-risk venture that it would be. I'm sure I could become entertainingly frivolous, if it weren't my money at stake.

I think its a novel idea. Proper documentation, perhaps some basic images to eternalize your actions. Maybe even low quality movie highlights. Those devoting their funds to 'frivolousspending.com' (although i rather like 'livefrivolous.com') could submit suggestions regarding what form of chaos they would have you enact. Occasionally you could choose one of the submissions as your daily havoc, thereby drawing in your subscribers even more. Or maybe it would be more profitable to offer contests to determine your frivolous acts. For example, you could say every time 1000 dollars was collected you would choose a way to frivel it away. Contests in general seem to ignite the addictive insticts of the masses, so im sure setting up a contest type format would help the site grow quickly. As for your frivolous ventures, would you choose to do anything at all, falling into line behind a widely growing trend (ha!) of stupid entertainment in this country? Or would you structure your actions to create significant anarachy? (perhaps a bit of both) If you have a good idea of how to advertise the site, it might be a very tempting venture. |

Your thoughts largely match mine (I considered it further after blogging). I was thinking 'proof' images on-site, and purchasable CDs of the movie clips. For the competition-like format, I was thinking I could list several frivolous activities to cast your money-vote towards, and whenever a listed frivolous activity reaches its required cost (represented throughout by a progress bar), that activity is performed and documented. Not doing "anything at all", certainly - I would pick out those things that I, personally, would find entertaining to do. Possibly more "anything"-like when large donations accompany a request, of course. The determining factor is fun, I think - a bit of discord wouldn't go amiss, but I wouldn't particularly seek it out. And I could always throw in some not-so-frivolous things too, since people would be offered the choice of where their money is to be spent. ("Click here to donate towards eating-like-a-cookie-monster-in-an-expensive-restaurant... Click here to donate towards smashing up a brand new Volkswagen with a mallet... Click here to make a donation and a suggestion of a new frivolous activity...") "liveandfrivolous.com" is tempting, but I think I still prefer the openness of calling it frivolousspending. |

I know if I had money to just blow I would much rather put it towards that than helping someone that bought a bunch of crap they couldn't afford because they're moronic. |
