I just approached my wife, in the kitchen. She has been playing Nethack for most of the day. As I approached, she jumped nervously. Reading her sheepish look, I inquired "what, did you think I was a kobold?" She explained herself, "no, I thought you were invisible Asmodeus." Nethack appears to have an uncanny ability to insinuate into people's psyches, as further demonstrated by this and this.

An even worse nightmare is trying to compete in Kevan's Nethack "Longer Word" contest... Where are the vowels?!??? |

Insinuating into real kitchens is rather more uncanny than mere dreams, though. I wouldn't have thought the real world was comparable enough to actually trigger anything (cf. reacting nervously to blue and yellow litter-bins after three hours of System Shock 2, noting and sticking to shadows after heavy Thiefing). Impressive. [Stavrogin] They're in Dungeon Crawl, probably. |

Nethack invades rl. I had been feeling as though I had eaten a ring of aggravation a while ago :( How do you get rid of intrinsics in rl? |

You could always install Nethack - Falcon's Eye. http://falconseye.sourceforge.net/ It's astounding how non-addictive this version makes Nethack. |
