An observation I made a few days ago that is fairly blogworthy; interjecting 'mystery' between any adjective-noun coupling results in hilarity. Some choice examples:From the first two minutes after I thought of it:Also entertaining, though less flexible, is adding 'magical mystery' when a noun lacks an adjective. [23:39] |

Hey cool! I own that Gateway Mystery computer. It only runs at 450MHz, and only believes in one floppy drive at a time, even though the DOCS SAY THE FLOPPY DRIVE CONTROLLER SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE TWO!?!/? (Anybody else have a computer with a FDC that can only handle one floppy drive at a time?) I have to keep moving ribbon cables around to get to stuff stored on 5.25" floppy disks (Yes, I should move this stuff onto a more accessible medium, but usually it's like late night "Hey, let's play 'Leisure Suit Larry I'" sessions, which generally end in me crawling around under my desk with a broken screwdriver, half a Coke can, and a fistful of floppies that actually are floppy (and indeed original LSL disks with the cool Sierra copy protection and such), until I can call out "Which is not a cheese? Bo Derek or the leader of Nazi Germany?". At which point people say - "Whoaa dude. You still doing that? We double clicked down this hard core porn ages ago." And so it goes. Why would I bother putting this on CD? That would take all the fun out of it.) This machine is straight out of the zone of rather poor mid-afternoon scones. Please remember, that this comment was much more intriguing in inception, and was dragged down by evil winged monki's who had forgetten their correct collective noun. |

Ah, and I'm sure Holly is being a delightful temptress at this point, being as "Freshly squeezed mystery juice" is an Australian synonym for Vegemite dregs here. Well, at least, where I come from, which involves a magical mystery tour and rather a large proportion of rhinoceros. Not to mention the Aardvark. |

Since more than half of my parents (don't ask how many I have) are from Lincoln, England, this is like two obscure references for me ) First, the Beatles 'Magical Mystery Tour' reference, which I am sure was intended. Second, I can't help but think that when you say 'Holly', you mean the comp from Red Dwarf. Now you have me wondering when Red Dwarf comes out on DVD. And to strike at your own homeland, I find the phrase 'Australian Mystery Rules Football' to be spit-take inducing. ) |

Ooh, do we get points for spotting obscure references? ("I can always sense obscure references." "Yes, even when there aren't any.") |
Khandi |
Bit of an edit here, I should have referred to the 'Holly' part as an obscure coincidence, not reference. Unless Raven was somehow conversing with Red Dwarf characters. |
RavenBlack |
Or perhaps just "a coincidence", Red Dwarf being really not very obscure at all, and Holly being present (in some form) throughout almost the entire set of serieses. |
Khandi |
Red Dwarf is unfortunately obscure in my part of Canada (southern Ontario). The programming director of the Space Channel (our dedicated digital cable sci-fi channel) insists that the laugh track makes it a sit-com, and therfore covered by the Comedy Network. Likewise, the PD at the Comedy Network maintains that Red Dwarf is pure sci-fi, as a result neither channel will show it. ( |

And yet you are aware of it. So not all that obscure, really. |

Now then, Mystery Juice is really an amazing band from Scotland... |
