I spent over an hour last night, moving a hard drive and a CD-writer from one machine to two other machines, and the (faster) CD-writer from one of the other machines to the other of the other machines. Why did it take so long? Because two of the three machines in question were in narrow gaps with no nearby space, requiring the magical skills of "opening a computer case while standing on one foot and bracing yourself with your head against a wall, while using only a makeshift screwdriver because a proper screwdriver is too long for the space available". The pelican method of hardware modification. And the other machine was in a place with no light sources. Which was convenient.

I'm an service electrician by trade, might I suggest the purchase of some Klein stubby screwdrivers and a cheap-o worklight? Well worth the under fifteen dollar investment. (A stubby screwdriver is about two and half inches long, tip to tail.) |

ah, i know the feeling all too well... ive spent the last few years between two half functioning computers and a third that generally works a tad better. many late night operations entailing transplant with a pocket knife, or what have you... at one point, in a moment of pure genius (or blaten lunacy), i had a secondary hard drive suspended by a make shift loft (fishing wire and picture frame cable) because i just didnt have the time/energy/resources to purchase a suffieciently sized case. Crawling, creeping, and all sorts of inhuman acrobatics are all part of the grand experience know as computer. sort of modern day zen training, if you will- ultimate patience tests (or sweet resorting to growling whispers and liquid profanities) |

can you add more in depth stuff that you do with computers? |

I could, but I try to be entertaining for non-geeks as well as geeks. |
