Comments on Monday 11 February 2002:
Finished making the cover for Revelations - depicted right. Differing from my mental image due to my realising just in time that the original idea would have looked tacky. I'd have sent it to print, if the printy-people website weren't down. Tsk. [02:29]

Kevan
Hm, funny things, contexts. I've only just realised how quickly I'd skim past a book-spine if the author's name was "Raven".

Good superimposition of stuff, though, conceptually and artistically. I hope the tree looks more obviously wire-frame in the full-size image?

Eperdu
Or better superimposed.

Digi
May have miss understood what you meant by skim past, Kevan, but I think I might be more intrested if the author had an odd name. Or maybe I'd think it was the title. You sure the moon isn't a copyrighted image?

RavenBlack
Mm, it is more obviously wire-frame when full size, though I don't know whether it will be when printed. Not sure what Eperdu's objection is - the superimposition being obvious, perhaps? It was smoother, at first, and looked crap - I added drop-shadows and such to make it stand out. While the moon is the only part of the image that didn't originate with me, it's also three or four generations of Photoshopping removed from the original, so it's certainly not a copyrighted image now.

Kevan
"I recognise that moon!"

To this brain, "Raven Black" sounds like a pseudonym specifically chosen for the book. A boring-named author using a heavy Goth-fantasy sort of moniker, either from shame or a clumsy bid to sound more appropriate to a genre. Neither of which makes unknown books jump off shelves at me.

Which is a bit of a shame, but not desperately important - even less so for an online book whose sales are going to be based more on recommendation and free extracts.

Tabbie
You could always surprise everyone and use your birth name, although that would kind of defeat the purpose of not telling anyone your birth name, people would go "Well, why didn't you use a pseudonym?" and you can say "Well, in a fashion, I did." And also if people ask why you didn't use your real name, you can give them the same answer.

Afree
Wow, that font is ugly. Could you please get Paint Shop Pro or something? I don't want a "fancy" Windows font on the cover of something. I already have a book whose cover was made in Microsoft Words, and it's farking ugly. No more, please.

Eperdu
I mean that the superimposing of the tree, in that image, looks naff, RB.

RavenBlack
I suspect that both font and superimposing are damaged by the low resolution low quality jpeg of it all. Also, I try not to take design advice from people whose websites look like that of Afree.

Eperdu
While not wanting to sound antagonistic, I have to say, after taking a waltz Afreepageswards - Christonnabike. I agree, Mr. Black. And ye know I normally don't.
